Flip book : the animated book or the movie-book.

The flip book is a booklet with a series of pictures or movie photograms that appear animated when the pages are quickly turned. This phenomenon is known as persistence of vision.

In 1868 the English John Barnes Linnett patented the invention under the name of kineograph.

The flip book is an optical toy, predecessor of the cinema.

Le folioscope, feuilletoscope ou flip book est un petit livre de dessins animés ou photogrammes cinématographiques qui, feuilleté rapidement, permet la synthèse du mouvement par la persistance rétinienne.

En 1868, l'anglais John Barnes Linnett a déposé un brevet de flip book sous le nom de kinéographe.

Les premiers folioscopes, feuilletoscopes ou flip books français d'un fabricant de jouets, Charles Auguste Watilliaux, apparaissent en 1896 sur le marché. D´autres fabricants notables de flip books au début du XX^e siècle sont Léon Gaumont, Max Skladanowsky, Léon Beaulieu et la Mutoscope et Biograph Co.

Le folioscope, feuilletoscope ou flip book est un des jouets optiques qui ont précédé et accompagné l'invention du cinéma.

On peut aisément créer un flip book en dessinant une séquence animée sur chacune des feuilles d'un cahier.
